YUM CHA CHA 飲茶/恰恰 🥢💃🏻✨ Nothing says Cantonese more than Sunday mornings at the dim sum restaurant. Trolleys rolling past, the clink of teacups, the whole family squeezed round one round table. We grew up on 一盅兩件 “yat jung leung gin” - one cup of tea, two pieces of dim sum. Now we’re taking it out at night, with a cha cha twist. In the 50s and 60s, mambo and cha cha took over Hong Kong’s dance halls and silver screen. Grace Chang shimmied through Mambo Girl (曼波女郎), Cantonese film stars cha-cha’d through their musicals, and decades later Leslie Cheung danced in his vest in Days of Being Wild. Over in New York, @cantonmambo is bringing that spirit back to life.
